Dr. Fernandes is a general surgeon in Orillia, Ontario. She completed her medical school and general surgery residency at McMaster University in Hamilton, and her fellowship in minimally invasive surgery and advanced endoscopy at Dalhousie University in Halifax. She has a Masters of Public Health from Harvard University in Boston where she focused her studies on perioperative quality improvement methodologies. She strives to provide her patients with safe, high quality and compassionate care. Born in Orillia, she is honoured to serve the community that raised her. ​
​Dr. Fernandes provides surgical care for a wide range of medical issues including:
- Cancers of the skin, breast, and colon
- Hernias of the groin and abdomen
- Hiatus hernias and achalasia surgery
- Inflammation and/or bleeding of the esophagus, stomach, gallbladder, small bowel, appendix, colon, rectum and anus
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Emergencies such as appendicitis, cholecystitis, diverticulitis, bowel obstructions and perforations, bleeding and trauma

She has specialized training to perform surgeries using laparoscopic and endoscopic techniques, which allows her to perform procedures in minimally-invasive ways --- reducing your hospital length of stay and post-operative pain. She is trained in the endoscopic evaluation and management of problems of the esophagus, stomach, biliary system, small bowel and colon using gastroscopy, ERCP, colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy.
Medical Administration
Brooke is the friendly face (and voice) of our surgical office. As the lead/only administrator for Dr. Fernandes, she brings years of experience in administration with a passion for helping others. Brooke understands that preparing for surgery can be overwhelming, and she strives to provide a calm, professional, and supportive environment for everyone who walks through our doors. Outside of the office, Brooke is a proud member of the Orillia/Local Area community and enjoys exploring local parks & trails, attending live events & spending time with family.
